The Various Kinds of Overhead Doors

Overhead doors are some of the most popular garage openings available out there. These are available in various styles, each of which carries distinct advantages and drawbacks. As such, homeowners need to consider their options carefully so that they're best informed in choosing the best door.

Retractable Doors

These are solid, one piece doors that swing upwards and outwards when open, with the enclosure resting entirely in the interior. Retractable doors would go well with older homes as they have an antiquated feel to them. However, they also require a large amount of space to open and aren't as secure as other options in the market.

Canopy Doors

These are largely similar to retractable doors, though they don't take up as much room when open. This is because the door doesn't retract all the way into the interior. Instead, about 1/3 of the enclosure is left exposed outside the house. Canopy doors are also more secure when closed, and can easily be fitted with a garage door opener. Click here for more info.

Design Possibilities

Besides the choice of door, it's also important that one considers how elaborate they want their door to be. Since the garage is easily the most prominent feature of a typical home as viewed from the curb, the door needs to match the house in style and design. The budget would also be an important consideration when making the final decision.
